Volunteers needed
As you may be aware the 2016 Business & Community Awards (BACAs) are now open for anyone to nominate a local business, charity or community group that deserves some recognition for all the hard work and achievements they’ve obtained throughout the year. The BACAs celebrate and reward excellence for organisations in and around the Didcot area within the OX11 postcode and extends out to Culham Science Park, Harwell Campus, Milton Park and Southmead Industrial Estate as well as all the surrounding villages.
Anyone can nominate a business, charity or community group by visiting our website http://didcotfirst.org.uk/page-galleries.html and completing an eNomination form. The form is much quicker and easier to complete this year, with just a number of tick boxes to mark and 2 questions on the organisation or group nominated. We welcome self-nomination, but please also feel free to forward this information onto your partners, suppliers, employees, volunteers, customers, service users and colleagues.
Paper copies of the form are available from Cornerstone Arts Centre, Newbury Building Society and Soha Housing Offices in Didcot. All organisations shortlisted for an award are invited to attend the Gala Evening on Friday 18th November at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot, where all the winners are announced. Anyone who completes a nomination form can enter a free prize draw to receive 2 free tickets to the Gala Event in November.
Once we have received a nomination, we will contact the person mentioned on the form and request further information for their relevant award. If you have any further questions or queries regarding the BACAs, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Constipation study finishes recruitment!
The AMBER study is a randomised controlled clinical trial looking at the use of abdominal massage to treat neurogenic bowel disorder in MS patients. Recruitment for this study ended on the 19th of July 2016, with a total of 191 patients. Patients enrolled on the trial were randomised to one of two arms: ‘control,’ receiving advice on diet, fluid intake and positioning of oneself on the toilet; ‘intervention,’ receiving training in administering the abdominal massage (either self-massage or by a carer) coupled with bowel care advice. Trial participants were recruited from 12 sites throughout the United Kingdom, one of which was the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Patient follow-up will continue until the end of 2016. Analyses of results are ongoing and should be completed by autumn 2017. Interested persons may receive updates at www.gcu.ac.uk/amber or by contacting the Chief Investigator (Doreen.McClur@gcu.ac.uk/0141 331 8105).
“It is funded by the National Institute for Health Research, Health Technology Assessment Programme (Project: 12/127/12) and sponsored by Glasgow Caledonian University. The day-to-day running of the trial is managed by a team within the NMAHP Unit, Department of Health and Life Sciences.”
